I also found the PNUTS photo example highly instructive (and amusing). Dynamo-like systems relax both consistency and ordering about as much as possible without eliminating them entirely, which is the easiest choice for radical scalability and partitionability, but it's not necessarily the right tradeoff for many types of systems. In fact, in my current project I'll probably follow the PNUTS example of maintaining order for operations occurring at a single site even though my model for consistency between sites is vector-clock eventual consistency.

Interesting article. Backups are more important today then they have ever been in my opinion, if you loose your data and you cant recover it then your business is dead. Thanks again.

There is a new kid on the block - online backup product for Windows called CloudBerry Online Backup. It is powered by Amazon S3 reliable and cost efficient storage. If you want to take part in beta sign up on the website http://cloudberrydrive.com What safer place to keep your files than Amazon's servers?

Well, at Cazoodle, we do the same, albeit, for apartments from every
web-site, not just craigslist. Our first product, Apartment Search, collects
apartment listings from thousands of websources, and makes them easy to search using integration of google maps and street view.

http://www.cazoodle.com

We also have other vertical search products in pipeline, including Shopping and Events search. The key technology is in our ability to understand the semantics of the objects in Web pages.
